February Book Haul

I really must start a system where I punish myself when I buy more books because this is getting out of hand! 16 books in the shortest month!! AY DOS MIO!

Oh well, it is the month of love and if buying books for yourself isn’t love, then what is?

1. The Rise And Fall of Nations by Ruchir Sharma – there’s so much chaos in the world and if this is a step to take things into my own hands and understand what the eff is going on, then I’m all in!
2. Humans of New York : Stories by Brandon Stranton – I absolutely love the Facebook page but I had to have it, as simple as that. Got it on a fantastic sale as well.
3. The Wholesome Kitchen by Pooja Dhingra – India’s very own ‘Pâtissier Extraordinare’ comes up with a cookbook on healthy living when I’m trying to live a healthy life? Yes please!
4. The Human Zoo: A Zoologist’s Study of the Urban Animal by Desmond Morris – a friend of mine told me he was reading this and the premise – comparing the behaviour of animals in a zoo to us humans, is absolutely fascinating!
5. The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb – I’ve heard this is a tough read but the principle of it is super interesting. P.S. Is the recent US election a Black Swan Event?

1. The Narrow Road To The Deep North by Richard Flanagan – even though I’ve read this book before, it’s a book that shook me to the core and I definitely want it on my bookcase.
2.  The Plague, The Fall, Exile and the Kingdom, and Selected Essays by Albert Camus – Albert Camus is an author I have heard SO MUCH about and yet never read, so when the opportunity came of buying this book (at a dirt cheap rate), I took it up.
3. The Stranger by Albert Camus – reason stated above.
4. The Drawing of The Three by Stephen King – after my recent debacle of a read with the Gunslinger (read review here), I have decided to still soldier through and read the rest of the series to really see what the fuss is about.
5. The Wizard And The Glass by Stephen King – I found this copy in an old used bookstore and thought I need to read the entire series anyway, so why not.
6. The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera – This is a book I’ve wanted to read forever! I’ve heard so much and definitely want to see if it’s up to the hype.
7. Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh – this book was long listed for the Man Booker Prize 2016 and is a thriller-mystery.
8. Twenty Love Poems and A Song Of Despair by Pablo Neruda – I have heard people sing songs of praise for the writing of Pablo Neruda and I can’t wait to jump into this
9. The Princess Saves Herself In This One by Amanada Lovelace – a GoodReads Choice Award Winner for Poetry in 2016, I have heard great things. Poetry is slowly becoming something I enjoy reading.
10. Tell The Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Blunt – a book I’ve had my eye on since 2012 and was finally on discount in 2017! Major win.
11. The Commonwealth by Ann Patchett – another Man Booker Prize 2016 nominee, another awaited read.

1. The Wholesome Kitchen by Pooja Dhingra is the first cookbook I’ve ever bought and I’m really excited to try out its recipes!
2. Milan Kundera’s Unbearable Lightness of Being is one of those books you have to read before you die. Can not wait to get started on this.
3. Love Poems and A Song of Despair of course!
4. When I read the write-up about Tell The Wolves I’m Home, I was sold. But the book was never available in India and always so expensive, so when I saw it on discount I just had to sweep it up. 5 years it took me, but I got it and am so excited to read it.

So that’s it for February. I have decided that I’m going to buy books only if I plan to read them in that month. Discounts will come and go, but my bookshelf is getting way too full too soon. So no March (book-buying) Madness for me!

P.S. I re-read this blog post and I realize that I haven’t really given a lot of insight about what these books are about. Is that something you would want? Or is this format fine? Let me know please! I’m still new to this.
